Kick this around

In athletics, we often hear the phrase, "[She] has the will to win." I think this is wrong. We can be in a game, taking a test, giving a talk, or whatever the experience may be. We can have the greatest will to do well. But unless we have prepared, it is of little use. Really, it should be the "will to prepare." Those who succeed have this will, whether it be in athletics, whether it be in school . . .or in almost any other phase of their life. --Lavell Edwards

Passing and positioning

We practiced moving the ball around the field by passing. This was done with timing. Girls, remind yourselves which group won the timed passing.

How important is focus?

Throw-ins were practiced.

A throw-in is to be done a certain way. Not to give outside teams a tip-off to our strategies, just review in your minds the correct way to throw in.

Set plays were rehearsed

Set plays (called "resets") are:

  • Throw-ins
  • Free Kicks
  • Indirect Kicks (must touch a player before going in the goal)
  • Corner Kicks (Offensive team - Clear the goal box!)
  • Goal Kicks (Goalies, call to your team to move up!)
  • A drop kick may be considered a reset as players can position themselves(Goalies, call to your team to move up!)
Every touch and movement of a ball adds up to make the difference in a game. But set (reset) plays are of highest importance. A team should know exactly where each player should position themselves, and how the ball is to be played in order to control the result of the set play. If you have any questions, ask your coach

Soccer problems

For the coming week's practice, can you come up with the solution to this problem?

You have control of the ball and are shielding the ball against a tenacious defensive player. You cannot see anyone to pass off to. What should you do?

Practices are M/W/F right after school. Reminder: Please bring a ball to practice if you have one, and a water bottle!

Coach Mike won't be here on Monday and Wednesday this week! Good luck, Coach Ryan!!

Our team needs managers

Congratulations to our selected team managers, Ivie W, Hanna L, Emily P.

We need a couple more mangers. If anyone is willing to be a team manager to let Coach Ryan know at ryankprice@comcast.net.
